Why to use floating holders?
Floating holders compensate for RADIAL misalignment between machine tool spindle and work piece.
Why to use tension-compression holders?
TC holders compensate for AXIAL feed disrecpancies between the machine tool spindle and the pitch of the tap.

Also, the depth on manual tapping applications is secured: bottom holes can be tapped free of risk of tap breakage (with WES style adapters).
